GeekLabs is the digital-oriented section of a bigger organisation, called Tobakkens Kreative Væksted which means “Tobakken’s Creative Workshop”. This association regroups different kind of activities and workshops, and allow people to paint, knit, draw, stitch, make pottery, ceramic and much more. This free organization offers a place to the GeekLabs for the digital creative activities. The space is generally open to everyone, you just need to be registered and pay fees to use and enjoy all the facilities.

Greatly inspired by Labitat, one of the first Danish makerspace in the country, GeekLabs opened around 2014. At the beginning, Mikkel (the founder) and other volunteers were giving courses to makers. Lot of curious people were coming, interested in the maker movement. Like any open place, the communication was important, and the Facebook group was created at this time, allowing people to connect each other by sharing their projects and creations.

GeekLabs was created by Mikkel, a passionate electronic engineer and embedded developer. He is the founder and the main actor but other people in the space are also coming to help as volunteers.

Geeklabs is a very open-minded and creative place. People coming there are free to do whatever they want, there are no real limits for makers. Being a part of the Tobakkens Kreativ Værksted give anyone the opportunity to connect different sorts of workshops together, and mix old practices with new technologies.

Close to a university, GeekLabs welcomes some students, but usually, people working there are coming from lot of different horizons and have their own projects. Members can use all the equipment, like 3D printers and laser cutters and all the workshops like glass workshops, ceramic and much more.

GeekLabs is hosted by and dependent of Tobakkens Kreativ Værskted. You can come each Monday night from 7pm to 9pm to meet and talk with them. If you want to be part of the project, you need to pay fees of 450dkk (~60€) for 6 months, or 800dkk (~100€) for 1 year.

You can found GeekLabs in different networks, the makerspace is on Hackerspaces.org, Hackaday and Hackerster.
