ODAM was created in April 2018 as a project to promote professional activities and to provide a workshop for the community, as a common gathering point where everyone can exchange projects, knowledge and ideas.

The mission of ODAM is to promote knowledge and informal learning for everybody. As a former naval industrial city, Almada has a rich population with lots of knowledge, within the many trades involved in naval construction and repair. Here we join old trades with the new technologies, where computer or digital manufacturing is a must and preparedness for the future.

The main objective of our activities is to facilitate the acquisition of new skills and competences based on non-formal education and hands-on learning, creating opportunities to discover new technologies where every person has the opportunity to share and learn, with respect for each one and for the environment.

Along with the normal activities of a makerspace, we try to serve as a point of access for the elderly population, to have the capability to get small appliances repaired at a low cost or even for free, if a small payment is not possible.

In this Makerspace João is the founder and always hanging around. So you’ll never be alone !

Also, you will be able tomeet Katya Costa. She is an architect, founding member of the association, helps with ODAM’s communications. She created the logo, and is now more present at the workshop, helping develop some ideas for workshops and activities.

The ODAM’s user’s profile is general, from the student wanting to do a project, to that DIY person that just needs a workshop to repair a chair or any other furniture, or that old lady in need to do a small repair on an electrical appliance. Children are also our target audience, providing workshops about 3D printing, 3D modeling for beginners, or any other activities where hands-on is a must.

The business model is mostly supported by João the founder of the space that rent the space.

By chance the community manage some project from time to time that help Joao supporting the cost of the rent.

Also, a few regular members contribute with their monthly membership to support the expenses of ODAM.
