Hello World, hello Europe,

We are the Makers from FabLab of University Ruhr-West in Bottrop.

The HRW FabLab is member of the International Fab Lab Association. We orientate ourselves towards the Fab Charter.

Back in 2012 Prof. Dr. Michael Schäfer started the FabLab as one of 10 first official FabLabs in Germany. We are well connected with other FabLabs in the area through the Project 3D-competence-center Niederrhein.

The main focus is about teaching students in digital fabrication and get into hands-on mentality.

At Fab Conference ´17 in Chile Prof. Dr. Michael Schäfer and Marcel Kellner met VULCA and we are directly connected and supported each other activities when it comes to Makers Residency topic and in the european identity.

Indeed, we already started the first Maker-exchange with a Maker from Croatia. He did the Fab Academy at our FabLab.

Workshops are at the heart of the open digital Fablab evening

Thats also a special thing from our Lab. We as a “supernode” offer the Fab Academy program since 4 years as one of first German Fablabs.

Our team consists mainly of students : Prof. Michael Schäfer is head of the FabLab then you have the following team:

  • Alexander Pierchalla
  • Carolin Schröder
  • Dominik Hausmann
  • Jens Klöpfel
  • Joel Schneider
  • Jonas van Hagen

  • Lukas Hellwig
  • Marcel Kellner

Corona is currently making (external) personal visits to the FabLab at HRW Bottrop difficult. The federal government has signaled that restrictions will soon be lower. Workshops are at the heart of the open digital Fablab evening and we are happy to welcome you again.

Would you like to support us anyway?

  • The laboratory piggy bank is always happy to receive donations // ;-) //

Then the following partners are currently supporting us:

Also, If you as a company would like to promote our activities, long-term cooperation is also possible. You also benefit from this with exclusive workshop offers, cooperation stands at major events and access to expert knowledge. // Write to us! //

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT & RESIDENCY MAKERS

residency maker

In 2019 we decided to launch our first FABACADEMY residency maker in cooperation with Fablab.hr, Croatia

Indeed, we as a “supernode” offer the Fab Academy program since 4 years as one of first German Fablabs and we were looking for integrating more international makers into this program we host in bottrop. This is a link

It was a great experience to teach digital fabrication to “Tin Valetic”, maker from Fablab.Hr, based in Zagreb.

For several months, Tin came to Bottrop. He did the Fab Academy at our FabLab. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the diploma at the first try, but this is not the most important.

During this time we have learned a lot about how we can better organize an exchange in the future.

The accommodation was privately provided by Marcel Kellner. He had hosted Tin for the times he was in Germany. In autumn 2021 he received his Fab Academy diploma. in autumn 2021 he received finally his Fab Academy diploma. All’s well that ends well. Now he can also run the Fab Academy as an instructor in the Fablab Zagreb. We are very proud of him and look forward to hearing more from Fablab Zagreb in the future.
