Découpe laser- What’s the project story?
After my studies in design in Lima, I took a year off in Argentina. There, I discovered and I learned how to work with leather. Since then, I am passionate about this material and I investigate to design leather products useful for the daily life. I had two sources of inspirations: the animals threatened by extension and the lack of products that fit my needs. Thus, I first design for me, to get the products I wanted but I couldn’t find in the market, and then I improve and adapt them thanks to my friends or family feedbacks. I even asked people in the street about their opinions 🙂
- How the workshop was useful?
When I came back to Lima, I looked for a place to produce my designs and Lima makers was the perfect fit. They did a great job to make my designs a reality and they also helped me to improve it. When you are an entrepreneur working alone, it’s great to have feedback from other professional. The community of Lima makers acts as a team for me, helping me to find solutions and inspirations. After a while, they also trained me to use the machines so that I can be independent and to decrease the cost of the production. Even if I was reluctant in the beginning, it was a turning point in my work. Now, when I realize my designs I always take the production into consideration: I try to optimize it and it also opened new creative possibilities.
- What’s the project’s greatest success so far?
I designed a successful line of wallets. However, the success I care the most is when I see people with my products in the street. I remember the first time I sell a new line of lamps made of cardboard in a Sunday market: I saw a little girl excited when she saw the lamps and his father had no choice than buying one for her. I always remember her smile. Making people happy is the biggest reward for me.
- What’s your greatest failure(s)& lesson(s) so far?
Products more expensive are always difficult to sell. I didn’t understand the suspicion of people regarding the quality or work behind but I took the time to observe them and to study the success of products. I learned that the product itself isn’t sufficient: you also need to tell people the story, the vision of it. They want more than a wallet or a bag, they want an experience, they want to identify themselves in its values. Now I’m working on it.
- What’s your vision for the project & next steps?
I will open an online store to sell my products and I will design products with new animals and with bigger pieces of leather.
- How anyone interested can contribute to the project?
