A fablab located in the beautiful countryside near Angers, part of a social center so making the world a better place is part of its DNA. We welcome everybody that wants to learn and share experience and/or skills Officially recognized as a third place, this lead to numerous exchange with various and close by association to help emergence of a flourishing social environment.

From those of you that wish to discover a nice countryside and peculiar place in France you are welcome in our fablab.

It is in the little town of Chemillé, attached to a social center, well known to the local population, where every one coming is willing to make his part for the project. If you’d like to practice French, this is a good place.

In the fablab we already have several types of machines that can allow you to build almost everything, and welcome any of you that have the technical skills to improve them.

For the community organisation and involvement, we welcome anyone who is willing to work on it and ready to help to improve accessibility of the fablab to local people. We provide one room in a house dedicated to possible residency.

Le Boc@l came from an initiative from local citizens around a 2 weeks event in 2014 based on digital and exchange. It lead to the creation of a repair café (the 3rd in France).

From there the willing to build a fablab rise to finally end up with this project, that needed to be built for and by the local people. Since it was built attached to a social center, the construction of this place occurs by local contract to help the more in need and young one in search of training.

The vision of the fablab is to be more and more present with the local community, to search for different tools available to improve how people can access the lab and share with others on competencies and projects.

We also would like to work with other third places in the region to develop the network and help each other on  goals of each place.

A team of 5 dedicated people:

  • Yvan : develop and manage action between inhabitant of Chemillé and Boc@l’s staff
  • Julien : responsible of the machines, make them available for the users
  • Kevin : will accompagny people in their difficulties with our digital equipment.
  • Aurélie : follow up with ecological transition
  • Bruno : in charge of digital trainning for professionnal

The fablab exist since 2016 in a social center that is there for 40 years now, the community is quite varied, from young people of local schools to retired workers from local industry, or agriculture.

Also many makers from the biggest city close by (Angers). They come to enjoy the place and the machines in it.

Le Boc@l is fully part of the social center of Chemillé. The building belong to the the city. Revenues come from different sources :

  • Main part comes from public found as the Le Boc@l is recognized as a third place and utility service
  • By doing formation and workshop with local entities
  • By renting tool usage for fablab members.
