Makerspace9220 started with a need. Jacob, teacher in a public school and founder of the space, needed to find a way to print 3D objects for a course. After looking around, the idea of building a makerspace grew up inside his head. A few months after, he started to build the project. He first contacted the municipality and became the project leader for this coming makerspace inside Trekanten Culture House in Aalborg.

The makerspace provides technology to everyone. It has been greatly inspired by HAL9K makerspace, where the community already has the technical knowledge to use the equipments by themselves. But there, the local users don’t know how the machines are working. One of their goals is to train people to be autonomous with the machinery and give them a new view on current technologies. This is a strong value for the workshop’s team. As it is a part of the municipality, the team want/need to share the knowledge with all the community members.

Makerspace9220’s team is made up of 3 dedicated makers: Jacob, the founder and gatekeeper, Carina and Victor who are here to answer your questions and help you on your projects.

The structure is small but active, and they are open to any proposition!

Makerspace9220 is a flexible space, designed to welcome a great diversity of people, from the youngest to the oldest. The space accepts all types of projects. Even if your project is a big one, the space is flexible and it is always possible to re-arrange parts of the space to create a bigger workplace.

Makerspace9220 gives you access to a whole range of machines, from 3D printer, laser cutter, to the sewing machine and the vinyl cutter. Don’t forget, this makerspace only provides facilities & machine for users, but you’ll need to bring your raw material with you to use them.

The majority part of Makerspace9220 members are around twenty years old. They’re generally totally independent, coming during the open moments to work on their own projects, and leave the place when it’s done. The place is also open for schools, for their students to get their hands on new technologies and new way of building things together.

Makerspace9220 is not an association like most Danish ab Labs & makerspaces, for they belong to Aalborg’s municipality. The people working there are employed by the city to maintain the makerspace and organize events. As of early 2019, there are no events planned by the team, but the team is working to create interesting experiences for the local community in a near future.

All projects are accepted, everyone is welcome, from the youngest (14 years old minimum) to the oldest! The vast majority of participants are around 20 years old. If your project has the potential to catch other members’ interest, the makerspace’s team will write a description and share it on its Facebook page!
