Field Ready - 3D printed humanitarian kit
Designed and developped in Nepal Innovation Lab
Field Ready meets humanitarian and reconstruction aid by transforming logistics through technology, design and engaging people in new ways. We make useful items where they are needed to solve problems locally. We pass on these skills to others through training and capacity-building. We are pioneering innovative approaches to the toughest challenges regardless of the sector. The impact of this is dramatically improved efficiency making aid faster, cheaper and better.

3D printingWhat is it?
Ram and Ben work for Field Ready, a NGO that aims at meeting humanitarian needs by transforming logistics through technology and innovative design. In short: develop local production, local manufacturing to answer local needs. They are currently working on a humanitarian kit including a plug-in 3D printer to car batteries and a “Makefit app” with a catalog. Thanks to this kit, the catalog app (which can be used offline) offers a wide variety of materials from pipe fitting to medical supplies, which can be 3D printed directly on site. The main target is refugees’ camp.
How do they interact with the workshop?
The humanitarian kit’s project has passed the Nepal Innovation Lab application process and is now hosted as mid-term resident. Field Ready can use the lab’s space, 3D printers, and benefit from its design and prototyping processes expertise. They also got a financial grant to develop their innovative solution. Today they are running pilots in several places in Nepal.
What’s next?
Field ready team’s objectives are to grow the number of tools available in their humanitarian kit and raise funds to scale their project by involving other NGOs in its deployment.
