FABACADEMY /or/ FABRICADEMY IN LEON

The Fab Academy is a fast paced, hands-on learning experience where students learn rapid-prototyping by planning and executing a new project each week, resulting in a personal portfolio of technical accomplishments.

The aim of this course is to train participants in the individual labs to use all FabLab technologies so that they can function as experts in matters of FabLab at the locations.

The Fabricademy is a six month-course (at least three full days a week) during which you will learn about the techniques, processes, machines, and tools that impact the designing, prototyping of both experimental textiles and clothing.

Our team has been involving in such a program since many years and we mentor new international makers every year!

Applications for 2022 cycle will be open in Sept 2021. Wait this time or if you want reach us by mail before!

Fab Lab León is a collaborative workspace, where new technologies approach restless minds, based in the city of León.

The space benefits from a modern installation and a complete team that makes this space a different and attractive space, to make meet people and machines. The team organizes the different programs with the aim of empowering young people through technology. Technology is not seen only in this technical aspect, but also in this social one. The beneficiaries of those different programs are, in particular, young people that will be equipped for the future with many new skills.

Today, they have 9 years of experience in training, both our own and international, as well as services to companies and individuals.

Fab Lab León is an active member of the global network of Fab Labs, Fab Foundation, with more than 1800 spaces around the world, working in a distributed and independent way to offer training, manufacturing and entrepreneurship opportunities to local communities.

Throughout the Fab Lab Global Network they take part in the different international trainings annually organised:

  • FabAcademy and
  • Fabricademy

First, they were participants in these programs, and now they act as a training hub.

This is the team :

  • Nuria Robles
  • Pablo Núñez
  • Adrián Torres
  • Dani Pérez
  • Cesáreo González

Tener el mejor equipo hace que seamos mejores.

Having the best team makes us better.

Fab labs are available as community resources, allowing open access to individuals and the development of programs and projects.

Fab Lab León is a space for work, cooperation and communication where you can hold any event. It is a unique space to hold events, meetings and workshops.

The designs and pototypes developed in the fab labs can be protected and sold in any way the inventor chooses, but must be available for individuals to use and learn from.

A fab lab can host commercial activity in the prototyping phase, as long as the development of the product or project grows outside the laboratory, does not conflict with the other uses of the fab lab, and benefits researchers, laboratories and networks that have contributed to its success.

Jovenes Maker ~ Young Makers

a project aimed at young people in the city of León.

Throughout the school year, practical lessons will be taught so that students acquire sufficient technical skills to be able to carry out a project of their choice.

At the end of the course, participants present their projects in an event to which families will be invited.

In short, it consists of bringing science and technology closer to homes through young people, promoting the social and economic utility of science and technology, thus promoting scientific vocations among non-university youth.

It is aimed at 12-18 years old children. Exceptions can be made for a bit younger children.

Poderosas ~ Powerful

project develops and implements educational programs and events designed to encourage engagement among girls with technology, promote self-confidence and support the aspiration of technical careers.

With this program, and within the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) framework, it is intended to capture the innate abilities of girls in relation to these 5 pillars through attractive projects for girls of these ages.

Aims are that the girls:

  1. Learn without realizing it, because you will seek the theoretical foundations as you need them in your practical applications
  2. Develop their creativity by making what is only in her head a reality
  3. Learn from their classmates and, at the same time, teach their classmates (P2P Learning, peer to peer)
  4. Get used to working with others creating a climate of cooperation and contribution
  5. Learn to express themselves in public, since there will be public activities in which girls are invited to participate by showing their projects

And also, have fun with it, at the pace and level that she wants :)

STEAMKids

project that aims at changing children’s thinking, from consumers to creators, making them better prepared for the future that awaits them.

The theoretical content will be explained in the workshop itself, in the actual realization of the projects applying an innovative learning system that has been used for several years in FabLab León, imported from MIT and that consists of explaining the theoretical foundations as they are needed in the development of projects.

Most of the activities will be carried out in the workshop while the classroom is used to update the documentation and present the work carried out. The mix of theoretical and practical classes in a proportion of 20-80.

Finally, it is not just about robotics or programming, but about improving the non-technological qualities of children. Here is what we want to improve:

  1. Social Competencies - Not only technical knowledge is important.
  2. Design and programming - Transformation of ideas into practice
  3. Digital Manufacturing Tools - Something that only exists in Fab Lab León

All these projects were constructed with the STEAM frameworks Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics present for many years in numerous FABlabs all over the globe.

The future of children is to become creators, not consumers.

FABLAB TOURING TO BETTER CONNECT

Networking

We, as Fablab Leon, have the chance to involve in our local community Adrián Torres. Indeed, he is our most connected maker into the European Maker network.

WHY & HOW?

Adrian has an objective when it comes to traveling. For work or vacation he will never miss the chance to make a stop to knock on the door of the local fablab where is will be.

He approximately visited More than 20 fablabs throughout Europe (Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Hungary) and participated to dozen of conference such as MakerFaire in Europe or FabLab international Conference.

The Fablab network visible behind the FABFOUNDATION MAP make us feel belonging in this international makers movement. Thanks to Adrian, we get even more close to each other.
