The story of Fab Lab Spinderihallerne started 20 years ago, when the place was a simple spinning mill factory. At this time, the production moved to Asia and the remaining space was left unused. An empty place but not for so long. A few years, clay makers and artists came in the building and took the place for their own projects. Vejle municipality decided to create jobs and was focus on creative industries.
In 2009, the space was operational and opened for all creative startups working in design and other fields. At that time, people were working on projects like innovative products for kids, and the idea of a Fab Lab came to the surface with the idea to create prototypes using digital fabrication technologies.
In 2012, the idea was mature enough. Fab Lab Spinderihallerne was created by the municipality to give the opportunity to anyone to become a maker and create their own products or prototypes. The majority of the funds were given by the municipality and the rest came from external sources. The Fab Lab wanted to become a place for innovation and entrepreneurs with the will of giving an easy access to the machines to everybody.
In 2017, Fab Lab Spinderihallerne was accepted as a member of the world Fab Lab network (facilitated by the Fab Foundation) and got involved in the FabAcademy program in 2018. In early 2019, the Fab Lab decided to move to a new location to get bigger facilities!
