Fab Lab Spinderihallerne is made up of a multi-disciplinary team coming from different horizons, including architects, teachers, journalists, designers and scientists. All members of the team are makers and graduated from the FabAcademy Curriculum.

Katrine is the leader of the Fab Lab. Coming from a political sciences background, she worked in processes development, designing processes and concepts for kids for the last 8 years. She used to be a program leader and concept developer, working across different sectors and different kind of public and private entities.

Katrine does not have technical skills and was helped by Ana (instructor), Michael (manager) and Peter (advisor) to build the Fab Lab and support the community!

Fab Lab Spinderihallerne’s community comes from a diversity of horizons. First of all, the workshop wants to be very open. And the laboratory also want to be gender and age neutral, and give the same opportunity to anybody. Coming here, you’ll meet young and old people, entrepreneurs and workers, people coming from different countries and speaking different languages.

Fab Lab Spinderihallerne’s members are not easy to count, due to legal restrictions in Denmark. In the first months of 2018, more than 500 members came to use the Fab Lab’s facilities. All people don’t necessarily have the same behavior and interest in the space: only 130 users are coming frequently, the rests are essentially curious people coming to see what a Fab Lab is.

The workshop’s doors are also open to companies, 20 startups are coming frequently to the space. Engineers and searchers from private company are also coming. Finally, some students and groups working in the Danish industry are coming on their spare time to make their own projects and designs.

Fab Lab Spinderihallerne community of makers is wider than the people coming to the space, with 18 schools as partners who are located close to the municipality.

80% of the funds needed to start Fab Lab Spinderihallerne came from the municipality. The last 20% came from external entities, mostly for the facilities & equipments.

Fab Lab Spinderihallerne is more than a “traditional Fab Lab”. The team offers services for children, teachers and companies, like specific courses about machines and how to use them, one-to-one advices for projects and entrepreneurship programs to help members to create there own business plan. The vision behind these services is to inspire people to make something concrete and real, and help them in the process.

Fab Lab Spinderihallerne organises a MakerFaire in Vejle city, and they’re also involved in different makers events in Denmark and other Scandinavian countries. Another lucrative activity is to help children in local schools by giving them training and courses. At this time, more than 30 users were trained and are now “super users”, giving them the opportunity to share their own knowledge and experience with others. In the same way, 24 teachers were trained in different high schools.

Fab Lab Spinderihallerne is a part of FabLab@School movement, the world Fab Labs network, the Fab Academy program and the Nordic FabLab Network.
